City of Lauderhill: Streamlining Certificate of Use Applications

Certificate of Use (COU) Application Process

1. Zoning Verification (Commercial Properties)

   • Commercial property owners must submit a Zoning Verification Request Form to the Planning & Zoning (P&Z) staff.
   • P&Z staff reviews the location and provides the verification form within 7 business days.
   • Note: Commercial and residential rental property applicants are exempt from this step.

2. Business Center Intake

   • Applicants visit the Business Center – Customer Service.
   • Required forms, including the approved zoning verification, are submitted.
   • Account creation and data entry occur.
   • The application is scanned and emailed to the Economic Development Division.

3. Business Concierge Review

   • The Economic Development Division reviews the application and verifies information.
   • Applicants receive an introduction to the COU process via email.

4. Approval Process by Finance

   • Finance performs the final sign-off.
   • Inspections are scheduled, fees are billed, and the license is printed.
   • The COU license can be mailed or delivered by the Business Concierge.
